About the work.

painting. I work with a restrained palette of blues — from near-black indigo to the palest grey-blue — building the image in successive transparent layers. Darker lines hold the structure; lighter ones behave like memory, crossing the page without erasing what came before. The painting sits between drawing and watercolor, between map and organism. Viewers sometimes see roots, neural pathways, river deltas, or the shadow of a tree against snow. I do not correct those readings. The title El Capricho names the attitude: follow the whim far enough and it acquires its own necessity. The paper remains visible everywhere. Its grain and warmth keep the blues from becoming cold. Light changes the work throughout the day: morning flattens the pale washes; evening pulls the darker veins forward.
