About the work.

This artwork depicts a tragic episode in the history of the city of Douala, Cameroon. In January 2001, during an operation by the "Commandement Opérationnel", 9 young men were arrested on suspicion of having stolen a gas cylinder. Since then, they have been missing. They were never seen again, and never brought to trial. This case ended with the conviction of members of the security forces, after a long legal process, for having apparently committed atrocities against these young men who were innocent. This piece is therefore my way of paying tribute to the memory of: Marc Etaha, Frédéric Ngouffo, Charly Kuété, Jean-Roger Tchiwan, Eric Chia, Charles Kouatou, Effician Chia, Elysée Kouatou, and Fabrice Kuaté They paid the price for abusive justice and atrocious violence that led to their eternal departure. The goal is to fulfill a duty of remembrance, so that such acts are never repeated.
