The work
About the work.
Spill draws on memories of family members banging their fists on the dining table in anger, and the tension that surrounded family meals. An ordinary breakfast becomes unsettled: the plate tips, beans scatter and an egg hangs in the air. This suspended moment reflects both the shock of an outburst and the feeling of waiting for it to happen again. I chose familiar food because domestic fear often exists within everyday routines. No people are shown; their presence is suggested through the disturbance. The title refers to spilled food, but also to anger spilling into a shared space. Created digitally, the work combines clean graphic shapes with a screen-print-inspired texture. Lavender and warm orange give the image an inviting surface, while its imbalance introduces unease. I hope viewers pause beyond the playful first impression and consider how a place associated with comfort can become unpredictable, and how ordinary objects hold memories of things that remain difficult to speak.
