The work
About the work.
Inspired by my own family life growing up, this work explores fractured relationships and how I learned to observe and adapt. It also reflects my struggles with intimacy: wanting closeness while feeling shut behind doors, emotionally trapped. The house becomes a box of painful memories and unspoken emotions, its walls growing heavier with everything left unsaid. Two people share a small space yet remain worlds apart. The staircase connects their surroundings but cannot bridge their emotional distance. I hope viewers recognise something of their own experiences and consider how silence and the boundaries we build for protection can also leave us isolated. I chose digital illustration for its control over shape, colour and layering. The minimalist, surreal style gives ordinary domestic forms an unsettling emotional weight, while softened silhouettes suggest vulnerability and distance. Houses recur in my work because they hold our private lives: places of comfort, conflict and longing.
