About the work.

This artwork depicts a woman who, on her wedding day, is confronted with memories of a violent past from her childhood. This is the case for many women who, having been conditioned to consider domestic violence as normal, enter into marriage the way one enters a slaughterhouse: in a passive posture, without resistance. This work questions the institution of marriage in our African societies, where women are asked for submission and docility, thus exerting a symbolic violence upon them. Its purpose is to raise awareness about women’s rights and domestic violence
